I've been sick.  I have been complaining to anyone that would listen for the past two weeks about going to sleep with a pressure headache.  Turns out, I have had a sinus infection.  Getting rid of a sinus infection is gross; nothing one should share with others.  This is a private sickness that you should walk through alone.
Gross things are exiting your body in ways I have never experienced or thought was possible.  I am hoping I have reached the end of this illness.

Happy Birthday Amelia!

Dear People Who Visit My Site,
Today is a very special day, my baby girl Amelia turns 1 year old today.  I am amazed at how much I love her, she is absolutely a terror but she's mine and I am so grateful!  In celebration of Amelia's 1st Birthday, I have created a Top 10 List of Traits I Learned About Her:
1) She's a watch dog!  She will bark at you, there is no two ways about it but she will do it with her tail wagging.
2) She loves the car!  She spent 1 month on the road with me and loved every minute of it.
3) She's a loner.  Unless she really, truly loves you; she will pop out of her room to say hi/check you out and then head straight back to be with herself.
4) She's expensive.  Rare diseases, loves to puke, you name it, she's got, done it and cost me a fortune. (She's lucky I love her so much!)
5) She loves to hump my sister's dog Matty!  I mean every visit, she will hump him.  Poor thing, he just sits there and takes it too!
6) When she wakes up in the morning, she loves to cuddle and give kisses.  It's the sweetest thing in the world and it's the only time when she's like that.
7) My right arm is her favorite chew toy!
8) She has a boyfriend, it's a stuffed bull/longhorn and she won't go anywhere without it!
9) She makes sweet, girly noises when she yawns!  It's so adorable I wish I did it!
10) She & I are a perfect match.

Thanks for reading, I know it's a lot for a dog but this past year has been hard and full of change and my one constant has been Amelia.  I am also getting her a hot pink cake and she will eat it tonight.  I don't care what you think of me too!
XOXO,
Alexandra & Amelia

The National, House of Blues Dallas

So, I am kind of bummed and relieved at the same time.  My sister's birthday was October 4th and her party is October 9th, the same night The National is playing here in Dallas at the House of Blues.  I have such a small social life, why does double booking have to exist?  I sold the tickets, which is the relieved part but I really wanted to go!  I love The National, they are so moody and cool.  I believe Matt Beringer (the lead singer) to be very handsome.  In some parallel universe, we are a scorching couple that lives in Paris and makes love all day, drinking wine, eating cheese, having friends over and listening to cool vinyl records.  He writes music, I write novels and we include each other in our work with inside words and moments.  Unfortunately in this universe, he is married, probably to some naturally beautiful woman that can eat what she wants and doesn't gain a pound and is witty and charming and the worst of the worst, really nice.  Sigh......

So sad, It's 2010 PEOPLE!

This just breaks my heart:
DA to investigate suicide of bullied Texas teen

To Anyone Being Bullied;
I promise, it will get better, suicide is not the answer.  The path less traveled is sometimes a tough one but believe me, the characters and experiences far surpass momentary lapses in reason.  Stay strong and remember, kids/adults who pick on someone are the truly sad and insecure ones!  Don't give your power away and let other people define you.  Tell your parents, tell a trusted adult, teacher, anyone.  Do not let bully's ruin your life and define a period of time that is supposed to be memorable. Stay strong and believe in yourself!

My New Favorite

I was bumming around the internet and found a man that is adoreable, a man that is smart and a man that is creative.  The man's name is Kiel Mead and his website is here.  It's nothing seriously new but it is definitely fun, hip and cool!
Your Welcome!

Teeth

Teeth are weird.  They are such high-maintenance items.  My Mom is having dental surgery #2 right now and I am in the library waiting for her to be done.  Her first surgery was a MONSTER!  The dentist removed ALL of her teeth and shaved her top & bottom jaw bone down and tied it all up with 87 stitches!  Her recovery period was long and she got 2 infections.
I thought after my Dad died that I would be more aware and have a heightened level of conscienceness when it came to my Mom aging but I still find myself getting aggrivated that she is not back to being 100%.  We think of our parents as our eternal flames, and in a way they are.  But they're aging process is hard.  At moments our roles are reversed and I am the care taker, the parent, making sure she rinses her mouth out and follows the doctors orders.  Some days she is SUPER annoyed with me because she is the parent and does not want to feel old and that she is not capable of taking care of herself.  Some days she is just depressed because she doesn't have teeth and she is not recovering as quickly as she wants to.  All in all this has been a lesson of human behavior.  I love my Mom so much, she is such an amazing woman that always put the five us first.  In some ways, that way of living has caught up to her.  I want to much for this period of her life to be filled with relaxed, wonderful, happy moments but unfortunately I am not in control of that.
XOXO!

High School Anthems

Being back in my hometown has me reviewing my past daily.  Music has and always will be such a big part of my life and my column is a good way to get out all of the music I geek out on in my head.  I want to know what your favorite High School Anthems are.
Comment on my column here:

And I just might write about it!
Oh and if you haven't subscribed to my column, please do!  It's absolutely FREE and I promise it will be interesting!
Much love,
Alexandra

Say What!?!?!?!

From CNN Breaking News email, "The Rev. Terry Jones says he has decided to cancel Quran burning -- "not today, not ever.""
I want everyone, Christian, Catholic, Orthodox, Jew, whatever and take a moment and breath.  Now, what they hell is wrong with you people!  America was founded by people seeking refuge from religious persecution and burning the Quran is tolerated, even if it was for just a mere moment of thought.  Not all Muslims are here to destroy America.  If that were the case, we would have a full fledged war on our hands on BOTH American soil and in whatever prodominant Muslim country we are currently NOT occupying.
I am very proud that a man of the cloth, Rev. Terry Jones (if you even deserve that fucking title) has decided not to burn a religious book,  but if you expect anything from any decent, moderately intelligent human being you have got to be dreaming. The fact that you even have a podium is a gift, how you use it is a disgrace.  You should be ashamed of yourself!  Anyone who continues to follow this moron is a moron themselves.

After Twelve Years

After twelve years in a finance career that I never wanted, I realized something quite profound in 16 months of unemployment.  I realized that I thought I wanted a career and as it turns out, I just wanted paychecks.  So now I work at a counter in a "restaurant" for a great guy and get talked down to on a daily basis while I am trying to become an established writer.  I work at a "restaurant" that has no waiters and with customers that do not tip while living on a wage that is less than  my first job in LA.
I received more respect with a job that made me miserable, at a level and in a field that most acheive with degrees and CPA's and that I acheived with absolutely no schooling.  Now with the freedom of creativty and a chance to try something without the fear of failing, but more of fear of never trying, I am treated with disrespect because I don't follow your rules.
These are some fucked up times.
I feel like giving up multiple times in the day, today more than other days.  Today I feel like ripping the danglers off of the douche bag that told me today that "I am not worth a tip!" or the other douche who waived his hands in my face to shoo me away because I was told to charge him for his extra sides.  A note to the two separate douche bags: Douche Bag 1: if your hair has more product in it than mine, there is something wrong and to Douche Bag 2: tribal tattoo's were never cool; it's just stupid to wear a shirt to show them off.  But I digress, giving up does nothing and will only give me more work when I finally realize that I should never had given up.  I just want a release.  I want to go to a dark bar with my friends and smoke a pack of cigarettes and drink some Jack Daniels and listen to some good rock n roll on the juke box and dance and relax and feel like I am in my skin again and instead of living a life that I didn't sign up for.  I didn't sign up for this.  I don't want people to think they can speak to me however they chose because I don't live my life the same way or in the same order as you.  You all have no idea how truly different I am from all of you.  I am a liberal that believes two people that are in love deserve the right to be married no matter of their sexual orientation.  I believe that if you want to believe in a God that is your choice but know that not believing in God is ok too.  I believe that Obama is a great man but will never be received as a great President because of his skin color/religion.
Um, I believe in so much more but my sleeping pill has totally kicked in and I shouldn't write anymore until this wears off.
XOXO-Alexandra

Say What?

Yesterday it was like 105 degrees in Dallas.  It was awful!  I was watching the news late last night and the weather said a "cold front was coming through" Dallas. The expected temperature was the low 90's.

A "cold front" is not the low 90's!  Stupid!

Madge the Bike

I miss you!  It was 107 degrees today, so it would be stupid for me to ride you.  One day soon, we will be reunited and it will feel so good.

Frank's Chestnut Tree Falls

From CNN:
http://religion.blogs.cnn.com/2010/08/23/tree-beloved-by-anne-frank-falls-down/?hpt=C2

The chestnut tree Anne Frank wrote about in her diary has fallen down; the tree was approx. 150 years old.  Exerp from CNN:
"Frank admired the tree from the attic window of the secret annex where her family hid for two years, before being betrayed. "From my favorite spot on the floor I look up at the blue sky and the bare chestnut tree, on whose branches little raindrops shine, appearing like silver, and at the seagulls and other birds as they glide on the wind," she wrote on February 23, 1944. "As long as this exists, and it certainly always will, I know that then there will always be comfort for every sorrow, whatever the circumstances may be.""

Salt

Wait for Netflix.  The worst part of the movie, it could have been great.  They could have had a Bourne style series on their hands.  I really wanted to like this movie too.  Oh boo!

Luckyyyyy....

From CNN Breaking News emails: "Jury convicts former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich of making false statement to the FBI, hung on all 23 other counts."

Maybe the Celebrity Apprentice helped you after all...

Stay Strong for Equality

From CNN Breaking News emails: "Federal appeals court blocks same-sex marriages in California until it considers broader constitutional questions."

I believe in the fundamental right for all people to be married.  I mean come on, it's not like us hetero's have done such an amazing job with the industry of marriage.  To be fair, I am not married, nor have I been.  So let's put my opinion aside and review some statistics.   According to http://www.divoricemag.com/ here are a few stats:
"Here's a sampling of some of the most recently available statistics on marriage and divorce in the United States of America:
•There were approximately 2,230,000 marriages in 2005 -- down from 2,279,000 the previous year, despite a total population increase of 2.9 million over the same period.

•The divorce rate in 2005 (per 1,000 people) was 3.6 -- the lowest rate since 1970, and down from 4.2 in 2000 and from 4.7 in 1990. (The peak was at 5.3 in 1981, according to the Associated Press.)

•The marriage rate in 2005 (per 1,000) was 7.5, down from 7.8 the previous year.

•In 2004, the state with the highest reported divorce rate was Nevada, at 6.4 (per 1,000). Arkansas was a close second, with a divorce rate of 6.3, followed by Wyoming at 5.3. The District of Columbia had the lowest reported divorce rate, at 1.7, followed by Massachusetts at 2.2 and Pennsylvania at 2.5. (Figures were not complete for California, Georgia, Hawaii, Indiana, Louisiana, or Oklahoma.)

•8.1% of coupled households consist of unmarried heterosexual partners, according to The State of Our Unions 2005, a report issued by the National Marriage Project at Rutgers University. The same study said that only 63% of American children grow up with both biological parents -- the lowest figure in the Western world.

•As of 2003, 43.7% of custodial mothers and 56.2% of custodial fathers were either separated or divorced. And in 2002, 7.8 million Americans paid about $40 billion in child and/or spousal support (84% of the payers were male).

•Americans tend to get married more between June and October than during the rest of the year. In 2005, August had the most marriages at about 235,000 or a rate of 9.3 per 1,000 people. The previous year, July was the highest month at 246,000, or a rate of 9.9; this doubled the lowest month in 2004, January.
(Sources: U.S. Census Bureau, National Center for Health Statistics)"

No one has the right to tell anyone how to live their life.  Above anything, above culture, sex, when & where a person was born, the one thread that we all have in common first, is that we are all human.  And in my humble opinion, it is inhumane to deny another human their fundamental right to wed the one they love.

Stay strong for equality!
XOXO,
Alexandra
